Croydon Council's Dog Neutering Campaign
As you may or may not know, Croydon Council dog warden service works in partnership with Dogs Trust to help promote responsible dog ownership. Their latest festive project is the ‘Neuter your Bull Breed for Christmas’ initiative. The idea is they will have 500 low cost neutering vouchers allowing all owners of bull breeds living in a Croydon postcode to get their dog neutered for just £35 at any one of our participating vets. The procedure normally costs between £200- £500 depending on the size of the dog so this is a huge saving and will hopefully encourage owners to go ahead.
There is a UK wide overpopulation of bull breeds and around 75% of the strays - Croydon Council Dog Wardens collect in our borough are bull breed type dogs and although this is due to a large number of unscrupulous backyard breeders, there are also many owners who would like to have their dog neutered but simply cannot afford it, which leads to accidental litters, continuous straying, dog thefts and unneutered dogs being sold to new owners, antisocial behaviour involving dogs and dangerous dogs so Croydon Council hope this initiative will help curb these problems.
Buying and selling dogs is rife at Christmas so Croydon Council thought this would be the perfect time to run the campaign and owners will have until January 31st to redeem their voucher. They will also be monitoring their stray puppy intake over the Christmas and New Year period to see if this has any effect on their stray numbers.
